Just got a whole bunch of foundation samples to try out! Yay!

I recently repurchased Aveeno face brightening scrub after a year. I forgot how much it lightens my skin- by two or three shades. Crazy. Hence, new foundation buying tiiime.

L-R: Dior Diorskin Forever in 022, Urban Decay Naked Skin in 035, YSL Touche Eclat foundation in BR20
Middle: Diorskin forever in 023.

It’s always best to get foundation samples if you can. This way you can test the colour/longevity/coverage/formula type over the course of a few days.

I’ve used the Diorforever one for a while, but my current shade (32) is so dark I look horrible and orange. The coverage is nice- if a little thick. It’s a dream when combined with a mousturizer.

I shall report back in a few weeks time on my samples!

Everyday Makeup items, ok!

Hiya~ Here are a few of my favouritedio make up items I wear everyday!

Dior - Diorskin Forever Flawless Perfection Wear Makeup

Diorskin Forever Flawless Perfection Wear Foundation

Gorgeous foundation, and my first high-end skin product too! It’s got a great buildable coverage and looks absolutely flawless and natural when applied with a stippling brush. My shade is 29, and it looks exactly like my skin. It’s really natural and makes your skin look perfect. For reference I have normal to dry skin.

Bourjois Healthy Balance Unifying Powder

I have the lightest shade in this, it goes on sheer I’ve been looking for a powder ever since Mac discontinued their sheer mystery powder. This has been the best match thus far! It’s a great powder that doesn’t make me look cakey and it smells lovely too.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Inked in Pink/Pink Gold

I’ve been hunting for the perfect rose gold eyeshadow for a while, as it goes well with my colouring. I was very happy when I picked this up in Superstore. The Colour Tattoo’s are wonderful, very pigmented and don’t crease at all like Mac Paint Pots. It’s a beautiful everyday colour that adds subtle definition to my eyes as well as light!

Glameyes Professional Liquid Liners

Rimmel Glam’Eyes Professional Liquid Liner in Brown Velvet

I switched doing my kitten flick liner from black to brown- and love it! It softens the edge of the liner, a little and looks a lot more appealing. This brand of liquid liner is what I’ve been using for years- I’ve tried many different types of liquid/gel liner but nothing comes close to the longevity, crispness and smoothness of Rimmels liner. It does take some skill to apply as the brush is very very thin, but practice makes perfect and anyone can do it!

Lasting Finish Blendable Powder Blush

Lasting Finish Blendable Powder Blush

I love these blushes! I have Pink Sugar, Pink Rose and Berry. I skipped over them for ages- they looked so tiny and similar in the shops. I for whatever reason thought they’d be rather crappy. Then there was a sale on RImmel, and the blushes were a dollar each. I was looking for a matte blush anyway so I picked them up and boy was I proven wrong! These blushes are insanely pigmented and give your face a natural rosey glow!

Mary-Lou Manizer

Mary Lou Manizer

Best. Highlighter. EVER! It can make you look like a disco ball so use sparingly and with a fan brush. It’ll give you the most unearthly glow!

Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Honey

I love Revlon lip products, and most of my lipsticks are from there. Their balm stains are wonderful- and I really love how each colour looks different on everyone. It’s unique! Honey appears as a mauvey-pink on my lips and is very natural.

Now here’s all these products on my face! Hurrah!

This bitch is fabulous. Just look at her.

Spring 2013 trend goals~

So this isn’t a trend post, just a general look at what I’m looking forward to doing with my look this Spring. Enjoy :O

Neon Pastels.

It’s a pretty big trend, but really updates any basic wardrobe. I’m currently doing the whole capsule wardrobe. I have about 5 trousers, and 8 shirts that I switch about. I’m going to be packing in about 4 of the tops as they’re very wintery, and will rotate them with some neon-pastely tones.

pastel and neon.... LOVE this shirt

Basics.

I haven’t been into super layering for a while now. And with the warmer weather (only slight) layering becomes pretty essential for spring. I plan to keep it cool, with a few basics. Blazers + Blouses make a beautiful combination!

denim + blouse + blazer + leopard print loafers / casual polish / dark neutrals

Casual.

I really like dressy clothes, but sometimes it can make you look really uptight and fuddy duddy. If you hear the words ‘casual’ and ‘fashion’ in the same sentence and automatically have nightmares of wearing strappy heels with a pair of jogging bottoms- fear not. Keep your look chic but toned down by going for smart cuts in casual fabrics. The best way to achieve this look- chambray!

Statement Necklace.

I mean does it really need explaining? An eye catching necklace on an otherwise dead simple outfit really makes the outfit something special.

CHAIN NECKLACE WITH APPLIQUÉS

Big Hijab.

I realize my head needs to be balanced out with the rest of me. I have a big chest and wide hips, with a very small waist. My head kinda looks awkward in my current style that makes it look simultaneously fat and small.

Sensible Shoes.

When I think of sensible shoes I think of those awful mary-jane, thick rubbed soled shoes mum used to force me to wear when I was a child. Now though- it’s simply low-heeled shoes that are comfortable without sacrificing style. I have really abused my feet for long enough, it’s time to start wearing shoes that look nice but also feel nice on and all!

Revlon Selects Review!

So I signed up for Revlon Canada Selects program and was one of the lucky ones to be chosen. Basically, I get sent some products from Revlon’s newest range to test out. I should state that this is an honest review of all the products. :P

image

Look at the box! Ahh how exciting to get a nice big package in the mail! :D

image

The little insert that was inside the box…two nail polishes, a lipstick and an eyeshadow palette as well as a nail file.

image

Here’s the lipstick, it’s called the Revlon Colourstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick  and the shade I recieved was Backstage. I was super excited, as it was the exact colour I wanted to get!

Here it is on my lips (don’t mind the cat/pink hijab!)

image

So the texture of this lipstick is INCREDIBLY pigmented, like crazily so. It’s no wonder- it claims to stay put for 8 hours. I haven’t worn it yet for 8 hours, but it’s definitely staining. So if that’s a quality you look for in a lipstick go for it!

Backstage in the tube looks like a deep purple-y burgandy. So I was surprised that on my lips it looked like a brighter brown-toned oxblood shade. I actually really love it, and I think it’s great for an evening look. I have to admit though, I do get annoyed with cosmetics company photoshopping the heck out of their promo photos. I mean c’mon- it’s so misleading! Regardless it’s a great colour.

I really like Revlon’s lipsticks. Almost all my lipsticks are Revlon brand- and they do dark colours really well. This reminded me of something between their Lip Butter in Red Velvet and Plumalicious from their Super Lustrous line.

I am still working on photo quality of my photos (bear with me!)

image

Next is the Revlon Photoready eyeshadow + primer set in Metropolitan. I was SO happy to see this. I love pinks and browns in my eyeshadows, especially shades with loads of microshimmer in it.

image

So starting from the bottom light and going up…

Bottom Left: This is the ‘primer’. It’s a little misleading calling this. It’s an eyeshadow, albeit a very sheer very very shimmery champagne pink one. It’s great for highlighting, or in this case layering underneath the other shadows.

Bottom Right: This is the shimmer overlay. It’s gorgeous. It’s a really remarkable gold eyeshadow- it has a deep brown base but this really exquisite deep golden crumbles in it that create a really dramatic look.

Big eye shape: This brown shadow is a really nice plummy-brown colour with a light shimmer in it. Nothing incredible, but a great socket colour.

Bottom line: This is another favourite. It’s a deep silvery-brown that comes off as a n exquisite plum-brown with lots of silver shimmer.

Top line: Another pink, much more pigmented than the ‘primer’. It has loads of silvery shimmer.

Here are the swatches.

image

They have great wear, and they’re all quite pigmented and smooth. They do have a bit of fallout though- which is to be expected with such shimmery shades.

image

Onto the nailpolishes! The one on the left is from the Revlon Expressionist line, which is new. The colour I got was called ‘Vincent Van Gold’ I was SO EXCITED. I love Vincent Van Gogh- he’s one of my favourite ever painters. Though he isn’t technically an expressionist (another colour they have from the line is called Pinkasso…who definitely isn’t an expressionist!).

The concept of calling the nailpolishes after painters is really endearing to me. And the colours are beautiful. The gold nailpolish which is a really yellow true gold, comes with a thin striper brush. The violet beneath it is very pretty and has a micro blue shimmer. It’s most likely inspired from Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

The nailpolish on the left is Revlon Moon Candy in Orbit. I have seen these before and didn’t think much of them- just a dark polish with glittery polish? Ok, whatever. I was actually surprised! The deep indigo colour is really deep and has a purple-y sheen. The glitter polish which is holographic is quite sparse. At first I was disappointed when I applied it to my bare nail. But when applied overtop the deep indigo colour, I was amazed at the depth that was created by the glitter. It really does look like a starry night sky.

Here are the swatches:

Sorry for the shakey-ness. I injured my hand, hence the poor application. And I REALLY need to go for a manicure…this dry weather is doing me no favours.

All in all, these were great products- I have always been a fan of Revlon cosmetics since I first got into makeup. Hope you enjoyed the review!

Recent purchases!

Went out for a shop yesterday, after what feels like ages. I’m on a strict cash diet so these posts are fairly few and far between…!

This top I got in the sales in Hennies for $20. I got a 12 so it looks loose on and all I’d wear underneath is a tight black body to cover my bum and add a nice contrast to the loose top. The watercolour details on the side are really lovely, too! I find that I don’t buy enough prints or patterns, but I really liked this one. It looks like an art piece.

I bought my flat riding boots! From Spring! Which I’m always dubious of- but these are actually very good quality. They’re a lovely cool toned brown leather boot that fits the bill. It’s very tight fitting but the ankle area isn’t very fitted so I don’t get the clown effect on the actual shoe area (not a hot look), it has a heel and it’s a light brown colour. I think it’s always important that when getting a coloured boot you should be very deliberate with your colour choices to avoid looking cheap.

So essence’s new nailpolishes are to die for. They have a really thick gel like consistency that look amazing on your nails. I don’t wear nail polish often (Muslimah problems!) but I bought this anyway as it was only a 1.49 (on regular price!) in Shoppers. This shade is called Chic Reloaded.  It has a shiny black base with green and pink shimmer, it looks like an oil slick and it’s a really trendy colour that looks very high end. I think Chanel has a polish in this exact colour.

I lack a really nice clutch purse, and I’m a big believer in strong classic basics. So I went to BCBG Maxazaria and picked this beauty up. I love their classic envelope clutches, they’re really great quality and look stunning.

I picked this frame up from Ikea for only 6.99. It’s really lovely, they have a square version too! It’s made of a really high quality plastic and has a matte grained finish, I’m pondering on what to paint to place in the frame. I’ll be sure to update you all with what I have put in it soon. :)

I also have an instagram! Follow me at hijabihipster !
